A stamped driveway gives a Dallas house the look of cobblestone, slate or brick on a single reinforced slab. We stamp whole driveways, borders along plain ones and the apron near the street. Call (469) 257-3979 and we will bring color chips and pattern pictures to the estimate.
How we stamp a driveway
The base, steel and thickness are the same as on a plain driveway. A pattern on top does nothing for a slab that sits on soft clay. Then:
- Color goes into the whole truckload at the plant, or gets cast on the wet surface as a color hardener.
- We spread a release powder or liquid so the mats lift clean and leave a darker tone in the low spots.
- The crew sets rubber mats in rows and tamps them into the concrete while it is still soft.
- Edges and corners get hand tools where the mats will not reach.
- A few days later we rinse the extra release off and cut the joints, lining them up with the pattern where we can.
- After the slab cures, we roll on sealer to bring out the color.
Stamping is a race against the sun. On a hot Dallas morning the concrete stiffens fast, so we start early and bring enough hands to stay ahead of it.
| Job | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Stamped or colored, 5 inch, per sq ft | $13 to $21 |
| Two-car, about 720 sq ft, full stamp | $9,360 to $15,120 |
| Stamped border on a broom finish driveway | Priced by the foot at the estimate |
| Resealing an older stamped driveway | Priced at the estimate |
Pattern, number of colors and hand work at the edges set where a job falls in the range.
Full stamp, border or apron
- Full stamp: the whole driveway carries the pattern and color, which costs the most
- Border: a stamped band along both edges with a broom finish center, which looks dressed up for less money
- Apron: a stamped section near the garage or by the front walk
Stamping usually stops at your property line. The approach and the public sidewalk sit on city land, and cities set the finish there, so we pour those plain unless the city allows something else.

Living with a stamped driveway
Sealer wears off fastest where tires turn, so plan to clean and reseal every few years. Sealed concrete can get slick when wet, and we mix grit into the sealer for traction. Hot tires can mark some sealers in July and August. Lighter earth tones hide that better than dark charcoal. If you are weighing cost, the driveway cost guide shows how stamped compares with broom and exposed aggregate.
Questions about Stamped Driveways in Dallas
- Can a stamped driveway hold cars every day?
- Yes. It is the same slab with the same steel as a plain driveway. Only the top looks different.
- Can you stamp my existing driveway?
- No. Stamping only works on fresh concrete. An old slab has to come out first.
- Will a stamped driveway crack?
- It can, like any slab on clay. We line the joints up with the pattern so most cracks land where they are hard to see.
