Driveway Replacement in Dallas

Most of the driveways we pour in Dallas replace one that gave up. The slab has broken into plates, dropped at the garage or lifted at the street, and patching it would only buy a year or two. We break it out, haul away every piece, fix what ruined it and pour a new one. Call (469) 257-3979 for a free price on tear-out and new concrete together.

Replacement, step by step

  1. We put in a Texas811 ticket so buried lines get marked before anything is broken.
  2. We saw a clean line where the old driveway meets anything that stays, like the garage slab or the public walk.
  3. The old slab gets broken up with a breaker or jackhammers and loaded out with the rebar or wire in it.
  4. With the slab gone, we look at the dirt. Wet clay, voids, roots and old fill all show up now.
  5. We dig out the bad spots, bring in base where it is needed and compact it.
  6. Forms, steel, the pour and the finish follow, usually within a couple of days of the tear-out.

Finding out why the old one failed

The tear-out tells us a lot. A downspout that dumped on the same corner for twenty years leaves soft, wet clay. A tree root shows up as a ridge under a lifted panel. In older Dallas driveways we often find mesh pressed into the bottom of the slab or no steel whatsoever, and now and then an older slab hiding underneath.

We fix the cause before we pour. That might mean moving a downspout, cutting a root, regrading so water stops running under the slab or adding steel. Our guide on driveways on Dallas clay explains why the dirt matters so much here.

Replace the approach too?

The approach is the piece between the street and the sidewalk. It sits on city property, and replacing it in Dallas takes a paving permit and a site plan. Sometimes the approach is fine and we stop at the walk. When it is broken, sunk or the wrong height for the new driveway, we price it as its own line. The driveway approaches page covers how that works.

Questions about Driveway Replacement in Dallas

Can you pour new concrete over my old driveway?
We won't. Cracks in the old slab come back up through a thin topping, and the added height causes trouble at the garage door and the curb.
Do I need to be home for the tear-out?
No. Move the cars out of the garage and leave us a way to reach the driveway. Expect a loud day.
How long before I can park in the garage again?
Plan on about a week after the pour. We tell you the exact day before we leave.
Where does the old concrete go?
We load it out and haul it off. You do not need a dumpster.
