Concrete Driveways for Lakewood Homes

Most of Lakewood's houses went up between the mid-1920s and the 1940s, in Tudor, Spanish Revival and French styles, close to White Rock Lake in East Dallas. Driveways from that era were built for one narrow car. Many run along the side of the house to a garage in the back yard, and some are two concrete strips with grass between them. We replace them, widen them where the lot allows and pour new approaches at the street. Call (469) 257-3979 to set up a visit in Lakewood.

Working on older Lakewood lots

Tight side yards

A driveway squeezed between the house and the property line leaves no room for a truck or a skid steer. We break out the old slab with smaller equipment, and on some jobs the concrete comes in by pump or buggy.

Big trees

Lakewood has old trees, and their roots are under a lot of these driveways. Cutting a large root can hurt the tree, and pouring over one can crack the new slab later. We look at the roots once the old concrete is out and talk with you before anything gets cut. If a protected tree has to come out for an approach, Dallas wants a tree removal permit with the paving permit.

Ribbon driveways

Some owners keep the two-strip look because it suits the house. We can pour new strips with steel, or fill the middle and pour a full-width slab.

The conservation district

Part of Lakewood is a city conservation district, set up in the 1980s, with rules aimed at the front of the house. If your lot is inside it, ask us to check the district rules before you change the approach or widen the front of the driveway. Work outside the district follows the normal Dallas paving permit for the approach. The permits guide has the details.

Questions about driveway work in Lakewood

Can you widen a narrow Lakewood driveway?
If there is room between the house and the property line, yes. On many lots the width is set by the side yard more than by anything we do.
Can you replace a ribbon driveway?
Yes. We can pour new strips or a full slab. A full slab is easier to park on and sweep, and strips keep more grass.
