Not every bad driveway needs to go. If most of the slab is flat and sound, we can cut out the broken panels, pour them again and tie them into what is left. Call (469) 257-3979 and we will come walk the driveway with you. If a repair will hold, we price the repair. If it will not, we tell you why.
Repairs we do
Panel replacement
We saw cut on the joint lines around the bad panel, break it out, fix the base and pour a new panel doweled into the good concrete on each side. The new panel looks like a planned section.
Joint and crack sealing
Open joints and wide cracks let rain into the clay under the slab. We clean them out and fill them with a flexible sealant that moves with the concrete.
Trip ledges
Where one panel has dropped or lifted against the next, we usually replace one or both panels so the surface is level again.
Edge and corner breaks
Corners crumble where tires cut across them. We cut back to solid concrete and pour a new section with steel tied into the old slab.
| Job | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Cut out and repour a panel, per sq ft | About $8 to $15 with tear-out |
| One or two panels near the garage | About $2,000 job minimum |
| Joint and crack sealing | Priced by the foot at the estimate |
Small repairs cost more per square foot because the crew and the truck cost the same on any size job.
Repair or replace?
We look at three things. How much of the slab is broken, whether the broken areas have moved up or down, and what caused it. One or two bad panels near the garage or a downspout make a good repair. Cracks across most of the driveway, with pieces at different heights, usually mean the base has failed in many places, and replacing the driveway will cost less in the long run.
We do not do foundation repair, and we do not lift slabs with foam or grout. If a sunken panel is in one piece and lifting would hold, we will tell you so. The sunken driveway page goes into that.
Call and we will tell you if it is a repair or a replacement.
Fix the water first
Most driveway damage in Dallas starts with water. Clay under a slab swells when it gets wet and shrinks back as it dries, and a downspout, a leaky sprinkler or a low spot can soak one corner over and over. We point out the source and fix it as part of the job where we can. Read more on water pooling on the driveway.
Questions about Driveway Repair in Dallas
- Can you patch a crack so it disappears?
- No. A sealed crack still shows as a line. The sealant is there to keep rain out of the clay and stop the crack edges from chipping.
- Will the new panel match the old concrete?
- Not at first. New concrete is lighter, and it weathers toward the old color over a few years.
- Is a 30 year old driveway worth repairing?
- If most of it is flat and solid, yes. If it is broken all over and the pieces have shifted, put the money into a new one.
