Oak Cliff was founded in 1887 across the Trinity River from Dallas, and Dallas annexed it in 1903 by a margin of 18 votes. It grew as a streetcar suburb through the first half of the 1900s, so its housing runs from early bungalows and cottages to postwar ranch houses. The streets twist with the hills. We replace driveways and approaches all over Oak Cliff. Call (469) 257-3979 for a free estimate.
Hills, slopes and old driveways
A sloped lot changes how a driveway gets built. On a steep driveway we rough up the finish so tires grip in the rain, and we place the joints and the steel with the grade in mind. Where the driveway meets the street at a sharp angle, we shape the approach so cars do not scrape.
The ground varies too. Parts of southwest Dallas sit on chalk, and where the chalk ridges rise the soil can be thin, with rock a foot or two down. On flatter blocks the black clay can run several feet deep. We see which one we have once the old driveway is out.
Historic districts and the permit office
Oak Cliff includes city historic and conservation districts such as Winnetka Heights, Kessler Park, the Tenth Street Historic District and the Kings Highway Conservation District. If your house is in one, the district may have rules for work you can see from the street. We check before we draw the plan.
Dallas runs its permit center out of the municipal building on East Jefferson, so paving permits for approaches and sidewalks all over the city go through an office in your part of town. We prepare the site plan and handle the application. The permits guide lists what the city asks for.

Questions about driveway work in Oak Cliff
- Can you pour a driveway on a steep Oak Cliff lot?
- Yes. We grade it, add steel and give it a rougher finish for grip. Very steep lots may need steps or a landing at the top, and we will talk that through.
- My house is in a historic district. Can I still replace the driveway?
- Usually, yes, but the district may have a say in what it looks like from the street. We check that first.
Call or send the form. We walk the driveway with you, measure it and write the price down before we leave.
